5 recipes of homemade fruit jams

Fruit jams are a classic of breakfasts, certain pastry preparations and why not also an unexpected touch on a dish. Although in the market we have a wide range of options, there is nothing like a good homemade jam. Whether to share with family, to enjoy yourself an excellent breakfast or to give to friends.

They are ideal for example to enjoy certain seasonal fruits that can only be consumed at any time of year, thanks to the fact that they retain all their flavor and also some of their nutritional qualities. Although, yes, we must not forget that the jams stand out for being a very energetic food due to the large amount of sugar used in its preparation, in short the main "culprit" of its common and characteristic sweetness.

How to make 5 delicious fruit jams

Homemade apricot marmalade

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg. of apricots
  • 700 gr. of sugar
  • Half lemon

preparation:

To begin we will remove the bones of the fruit and place them (with their shell) in a bowl in which we will add the other ingredients as well. We go to sleep and let him rest for twelve hours. The next day, we take the preparation and pass it through the processor or blender until it is well crushed. In a pot, place over low heat and stir occasionally to avoid sticking and burn. The cooking time is 20 minutes after the first boil.

As simple as that, your homemade apricot jam will be ready. Then we must deal with the step of sterilization and conservation. For this we will place the contents in glass jars, clean and dry that have previously been scalded. Place the jars with the marmalade in a pot to boil for 20 minutes. Then we leave it in the pot until it gets cold, we put the labels and they're ready!

Homemade jam of figs

Figs are not included in the rankings of the favorite fruits of many people, but that can change with this delicious homemade jam recipe that we propose. The first secret is the choice of figs, which when bought should feel soft to the touch, also having the skin wrinkled or cracked is a sign that they are at the right time to consume them.

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg. of figs
  • 400 gr. of sugar
  • The juice of half a lemon

preparation:

To begin the preparation we will remove the cabitos and the peel (if this one costs to extract it in some of the figs it can be left) and we cut each one in four. We pass the fruits to a pot with 400 grams of sugar and the juice of a lemon, stir a little to mix everything and start cooking on medium-high heat until they reach the boil.

Then, we lower the temperature by placing it on low heat and continue cooking for 30 minutes. Remember also in this recipe to stir slowly and help to undo larger pieces of fruit. Finally we reiterate the sterilization and preservation procedure that we saw in the previous recipe.

Homemade tomato marmalade

This jam will see that it has the advantage of being usable in all kinds of preparations and may be a very original touch in several meals. It is also simple and economical if you take advantage of seasonal prices. It is true that it is not a fruit jam in itself, but we wanted to add it on this occasion because it is simply delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg. of tomatoes
  • ¼ of brown sugar
  • ¼ white sugar

preparation:

The first thing is to peel and remove the seeds from the tomatoes until you have a kilo (you will need to buy about two kilos), then we will cut them into very small cubes. We pass them to the pot and add the sugar, keep in mind that the amount should correspond to the tomato. If you have 1 kilo of tomato in bucket, we will put ¼ of brown sugar and ¼ of white sugar. Mix the ingredients and let the sugar work for half an hour.

We add the juice of a lemon and cook it for 10 minutes over medium heat, while we are removing with a skimmer any foam that forms on the surface. Then we will put the fire stronger until it boils and continue for 5 more minutes always stirring. Then you have to lower the heat and continue cooking until the jam has very little liquid left. Let cool a little and place in the sterilized jars and do the typical procedure of boiling the jars with jam to preserve them.

On the other hand, if you love tomato jam you can try to make at home our jam of red and green tomatoes.

Jam of red fruits

This is one of my favorites, it is also very simple. You will need the same amount of fruits as sugar, put them in a pot and cook them 20 minutes on medium heat, stirring a wooden spoon.

Then we also add a little lemon juice, and in about 15 minutes more we will have a thick consistency. The last step will be to strain the preparation to take the seeds out of the fruit, and finally we start doing the conservation procedure that we have taught you at the beginning, remember that it is very important to do it correctly to avoid jamming the jam.

Homemade strawberry jam

Here you have another very simple and delicious recipe ... another classic: strawberry jam.

Ingredients:

  • Half kg. of strawberries
  • 225 gr. of sugar
  • The juice of 1 lemon

preparation:

We have to wash and peel half a kilo of this delicious fruit and chop it. In the pot we place them with 225 grams of sugar and juice of a lemon, everything to cook over medium heat, stirring regularly for 10 to 15 minutes. In a separate bowl mix 25 grams of sugar with 2 grams of agar agar and then sprinkle the preparation while we continue stirring. Then we rise to a high heat and give about five more minutes of cooking. Once the jam has the right consistency, let it cool and put it to sterilize following the steps we discussed in our first recipe.
