According to a study carried out by the Andalusian Society for the Study of Foodborne Illnesses (SAEIA) and the Migraña Foundation, it seems that approximately 90% of the migraines could be due to a eating disorder.

According to the results obtained in this study (an investigation that has lasted 30 years and has been carried out by a group of doctors from twenty different specialties), 80% of chronic diseases, such as migraine, fibromyalgia or osteoarthritis, has its origin in an eating disorder.

In regard to the migraines themselves, intolerance varies and depends on each subject, although one of the most important is that of the lactose intolerance (intolerance to milk and its derivatives).

This is because, on many occasions, the vast majority of people are unaware of the presence of products derived from milk in certain and different foods.

When the pathology is caused by food

When it is wanted to determine if a certain pathology is originated by the foods (as they can be the case of the artrosis, the migraña or the fibromialgia), a study is realized that allows to know the different symptoms that affect the subject; so that, in the first diagnosis, it is made with nine basic foods: milk, veal, pork, white and blue fish, chicken, yolk and egg white and wheat.

As has been confirmed, in 70% of the cases observed, migraine is produced by one or more of these foods.

However, the researchers have highlighted an issue that we have also commented on at some other time: we must distinguish between allergies and food intolerances.

What are migraines and what other causes cause them to appear?

A migraine is a type of headache caused by abnormal brain activity. At the moment it is not known exactly what is the chain of events that influence the appearance of the same, may in fact be triggered by a wide variety of factors, but many experts believe that this type of attack begins in the brain and tends to involve not only nerve pathways but also chemical pathways, so that the changes that occur affect normal blood flow in both the brain and the surrounding tissues.

Among the symptoms that most commonly tend to appear we can mention nausea and / or vomiting, the sensation of a very uncomfortable throbbing pain that is usually located on only one side of the head, as well as sensitivity to light and sound.

Regarding the causes that can influence the appearance of migraines, in reality there are many factors that can trigger it. For example: changes in hormone levels or sleep patterns, drinking alcoholic beverages or stop drinking caffeinated beverages (abstinence from caffeine), physical stress, going hungry, anxiety, smells or strong perfumes ...

In addition, there are certain foods that can trigger the onset of painful migraines. The most common are usually dairy products (especially cheeses), additives such as monosodium glutamate, chocolate or some foods with tyramine (red wine, smoked fish, some legumes and cured cheese).
