Drowsiness: tips and tricks to avoid it

Surely all of us at some point in our lives have suffered drowsiness, especially if we take into account that -in most cases- it appears as a consequence of having slept a few hours or having rested badly, having had many hours of work or different shifts. Even in case of boredom, depression, anxiety or stress, they can influence its appearance.

We must understand drowsiness as the state in which we feel sleepy during the day, so excessive that we can even fall asleep in situations or inappropriate moments.

As we indicated at the beginning, its most common causes are often excessive work or at different times, having slept a few hours or having rested badly (as a consequence - for example - of going worried or nervous to bed, sleeping with noise or not being able to reconcile the dream).

The treatment is clear: when drowsiness appears for several days, it is essential to look for the cause that caused its appearance. However, there are some tips that can help you avoid it. We discover them below.

How to avoid drowsiness? Simple tips and tricks

Taking into account that one of the main causes of drowsiness is lack of sleep, or having rested badly for having spent a bad night, if it is repeated for several days we should ask ourselves if, for example, we take to bed the worries that we have throughout the day. It is common for us to go to bed worried, ruminating thoughts, or even nervous. For these cases it is obviously best to try to leave this type of thoughts out of bed, being useful to practice half an hour before going to bed for some meditation or relaxation.

Stimulant drinks and alcohol can make it hard for us to sleep and rest poorly, so the next day we will probably feel drowsy. The solution is simple: avoid caffeine (both coffee and cola drinks), alcohol and other stimulant drinks from 6 in the evening.

At other times we have talked about the benefits of napping. If you have the opportunity to enjoy it, you can rest 15 or 20 minutes in the afternoon, but without sleeping more time, since then it will be difficult for us to sleep.

In addition to practicing relaxation and meditation, physical exercise can be a great help, as it is useful to release stress and our body will rest much better.
