How to ask for an appointment with the general practitioner

For a cold, a stomach virus, a respiratory allergy or simply to perform a routine blood test. Many are the reasons for ask for an appointment with the family doctor, one of the main providers of health care in situations that are not urgent, whose role is as fundamental as it is important in public health care, and especially in outpatient clinics.

Although in the past it was only possible to request an appointment with the attending physician by going to the outpatient clinic or health center that each patient had, today thanks to technological advances, it is possible to do so through other means. However, the vast majority, in reality, few people use the Internet to do so.

To help you at the time of make an appointment with the primary care doctor, here are the main ways:

  1. By phone: calling the 012 corresponding to your Autonomous Community. This is a general information number, from which patients can request a prior appointment with their family doctor, simply stating their date of birth and DNI.
  2. By Internet: it is another of the most comfortable, easy and simple ways. Despite this, many patients do not know it or simply do not use it. It is as simple as accessing the Web page of the previous appointment request and entering the information requested in the request form (in most cases it is sufficient to enter the identification number of the health card). Once we have accessed the system will inform us of the days and hours free, throughout that week or the next weeks in case there is no time.
