How to make chicory coffee

Although coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the world, it is estimated that each year around 400,000 million cups of coffee are drunk, not everyone likes it. In fact, while some people choose not to take it precisely because they do not like it, others simply do not because they are sensitive or very sensitive to caffeine (you know more about the effects of caffeine on health); or because its consumption is contraindicated.

In these cases a very good solution, especially for those who enjoyed the taste of a good cup of coffee and now simply can not consume it, is to opt for the coffee substitutes, which ultimately become excellent healthy alternatives, with similar aroma and flavor but without caffeine.

An interesting alternative is the chicory, since even for many years it has been used as a substitute, with an intense flavor and a slightly lighter aspect, and that also provides all the qualities, properties and benefits that the chicory root.

Ingredients to make chicory coffee

  • 1 handful of chicory roots (dried)
  • Water

What do you need to make chicory coffee?

In addition to the ingredients indicated in the previous section, you need:

  • 1 grinder (for example, 1 coffee grinder)
  • 1 saucepan
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 spoon
  • 1 colander

Steps to make coffee of chicory

  1. Once you get the roots of chicory, clean them well.
  2. Put them on the baking tray, and put them in a moderately hot temperature.
  3. Once toasted let them cool.
  4. With the help of a grinder (which can be the coffee grinder), grind the roots until they turn into a fine powder.
  5. Put 1 or 2 teaspoons of this fine powder of chicory root in a cup.
  6. Now put the equivalent to a cup of water, and bring to a boil.
  7. When it starts to boil, add the water to the cup where you have reserved the fine powder of chicory root.
  8. Mix well with a spoon, and let stand for 5 to 10 minutes.
  9. Finally strain, and return to serve in a new cup.

If you wish you can sweeten to taste and add milk, which will become a chicory coffee with milk.
