How to make delicious crunchy cereals, ideal for breakfast

Although cereals are fundamental for the different nutritional qualities they provide, in such a way that they enrich our diet and daily diet, nowadays it is easy to confuse a healthy cereal with one that is not, especially if we refer to the typical ones breakfast cereals.

The reason is more than evident: most of the industrial options that we can buy in the supermarket are characterized by having an excessive amount of sugar, often unhealthy fats, and additives. So we are faced with a product apparently nutritious and healthy (which actually is), which however have ended up turning into an inadequate and insane food.

The alarming thing is that most of these types of breakfast cereals that are piled on the shelves of the hypermarket, have been developed and designed for a specific audience: the infant, with the concern that it entails. Why? Very simple: what would you think if we told you that in a bowl of this type of cereal your child would be consuming an average of 35 grams of sugars ?. Very healthy, without a doubt.

And what are those unhealthy cereals? We give you some examples: sugary cereals, cereals with honey and sugar, cereal balls and cocoa with a high sugar content ... Not to name brands, but you can get an idea. The vast majority are cereals made mainly with sugar, and flavored with honey or glucose syrup.

Luckily, there are healthy options for the little ones in the house. And that we can elaborate ourselves without much complication. We propose a wonderful crispy recipe very easy to make.

Ingredients:

  • 200 g of whole oat flakes
  • 120 g of mixed nuts (raw almonds, grated coconut, hazelnuts and walnuts)
  • 50 g of raisins
  • 100 g of cranberries
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 25 g of agave syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons of water

How to make crunchy cereals:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180ºC. Meanwhile, line a baking sheet with greaseproof paper (aluminum foil can also serve).
  2. Chop the assorted nuts (only almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts) with the help of a knife or a chopper. But it is not convenient to do much, to avoid biting them too much.
  3. In a large bowl mix the whole oat flakes, the grated coconut and the chopped nuts. Add brown sugar, ground cinnamon, salt and mix everything well. Then add the agave syrup and as you continue mixing add the water, little by little.
  4. Stretch this mixture on the baking tray, lower the temperature to 160ºC and bake for 15-20 minutes. It is essential that every 5-7 minutes you remove the cereals (being careful not to burn yourself). This way you will not burn too much.
  5. After this time remove the oven and let it cool.

Once cold you can keep the crunchy cereals in a sealed glass jar. They will hold up perfectly for 4 or 5 days.
