How to make herbal candies: 3 recipes

Nature gives us a whole set of plants and herbs with medicinal action, whose choice will depend on the disease, disorder or health problem that you want to treat naturally. Not only can they not only serve as treatment, but also as preventives. Thus, for example, it is possible to prepare teas and infusions, poultices or compresses, syrups with sugar or honey and other remedies and homemade recipes, as for example is the case of sweets of herbs and plants. They are ideal options to enjoy all the aroma and all the flavor of our favorite medicinal plants, but in a completely different way, with a soothing and refreshing effect. And if we also make them at home we have an extra advantage, since we can use our favorite herbs.

If you are passionate about making home remedies at home, and you also love the world of medicinal plants and herbs, do you know that you can make herbal candies, using the medicinal plants that you like best?

1. Herbal cough drops

Ingredients, what do you need?

  • 1 tablespoon of thyme
  • 1 tablespoon of eucalyptus
  • 1 tablespoon of salvia
  • 1 tablespoon of ginger
  • 1 tablespoon of rosemary
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/3 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup of water

Steps to make herbal cough drops

Put the equivalent of 1 cup of water in a saucepan. Leave to heat over high heat until it starts to boil. Now add the herbs in the indicated amounts. Let it boil for 7-8 minutes so that it acquires a strong flavor (if you can leave the infusion for 10 minutes it will be better).

Now in another saucepan add the herbal tea -salt- that we have made, along with the sugar and corn syrup. Cook over low heat until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture boils. Let it continue boiling without stirring, until the mixture begins to crystallize. Now is the time to reduce the fire.

Drop with a spoon a bit of the mixture on a previously greased surface, or in molds for hard candy. To finish, let them harden and cool.

2. Herbal candies for defenses

Ingredients that you need

  • 1 teaspoon of echinacea
  • 1 tablespoon of eucalyptus
  • 1 tablespoon of ginger
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/3 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup of water

Steps to make herbal candies for defenses

Put the water in a saucepan and when it begins to boil add the herbs indicated above. Let the infusion boil for 10 minutes so that it acquires a strong flavor. Leave it at rest for 3 minutes.

Now in another saucepan add the herbal tea, sugar and corn syrup. Cook over low heat until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture boils. Then continue to boil without mixing, until the mixture begins to crystallize but without hardening at all. Reduce the fire.

Drop with a spoon a bit of the mixture on a previously greased surface, or in molds for hard candy. Let them harden and cool.

3. Digestive herb candies

Main ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of chamomile
  • 1 spoon of peppermint
  • 1 spoonful of fennel
  • 1 tablespoon of dandelion
  • 1 tablespoon of ginger
  • 1/2 cup of sugar

Steps to make digestive herb candies

When it reaches the boiling point add chamomile, fennel, dandelion, ginger and mint. Let it boil for 7-8 minutes so that it acquires a strong flavor. Now let rest another 5 minutes.

In another saucepan add the infusion of plants that we have elaborated previously, sugar and corn syrup. Cook over low heat until the sugar has dissolved and boiled. Then continue to boil without mixing, until it begins to crystallize. Reduce the fire.

Drop with a spoon a bit of the mixture on a previously greased surface, or in the molds designed for hard candies. Let them harden and cool.
