How to relieve and eliminate mucus

Have you ever wondered why snot appears? The truth is that it is a question the least interesting, since unlike what we tend to think wrong, the truth is that snot is always with us, and not only in the area of the nose: we also have snot in the stomach, in the lungs, in the colon ... and if you are a woman, also in the cervix. The only thing that happens is that before certain disorders, diseases or health problems the body tends to produce them in excess.

This is what happens, for example, when we have a cold, a common cold or we are aggravated. Or even when we have an allergy and our body has reacted to that element that causes it (either dust, animals such as cats ...). Mucus is a defense mechanism, that more than an 'enemy' we should really start to consider him as a friend that helps us protect ourselves and to expel viruses and bacteria. But there is no doubt that although this is actually the case, when our body produces them excessively (especially in the nose), these can become a real headache, quite annoying and uncomfortable.

In these cases it is always useful to have a few handkerchiefs at hand - there is no room for doubt - and at the same time, some simple tips and guidelines that help us to relieve them, on the one hand, and eliminate them for another.

How to relieve mucus

From a natural point of view, in what is known as natural medicine (which passed from generation to generation, and that we can discover within the so-called home remedies), we can find different remedies that will be of great help when it comes to relieving mucus.

First of all, the fundamental thing is to treat the problem at the root from the first moment you notice that the mucus is starting to bother you, since otherwise the mucous membranes tend to be larger, the mucus tends to accumulate in excess and is possible that they get to harden. If this happens, other disorders and more serious diseases may appear, such as sinusitis.

To prevent this from happening, you can follow the advice we propose below:

  • Eucalyptus fumes: it is as simple as boiling one or two cups of water in a saucepan, and when the water boils add a few drops of eucalyptus oil. Then you must place yourself in front of the pan, being careful not to burn yourself, covering your head with a towel and inspiring the vapors. If you do it little by little and for several days in a short time you will see how that annoying mucus is disappearing little by little.
  • Baking soda, water and salt: it is a natural remedy as classic as it is simple. It consists of preparing a mixture of water, sodium bicarbonate and salt, placing it in a dropper and applying it to the nose.
  • Home syrup: a homemade syrup based on onion and honey helps not only when it comes to relieving mucus, but is also ideal for combating and improving coughs. Its preparation is very simple, since you only have to cut a large onion into small pieces and place them in a glass jar of 250 grams, to which you will then add two tablespoons of honey. Mix well and leave to macerate for 10 hours. Ready! you can take a spoonful little by little.
  • To relieve mucus in the chestIf, in addition to mucus in the nose, you feel it in your chest, a useful and natural way to relieve it is to make an infusion of ginger and cardamom.

These natural and simple tips are especially useful when it comes to relieving mucus. However, remember that in case of excessive mucus, that prevents you from breathing or that it lasts too long, it is always advisable to go to the doctor before self-medication.
