Hydrotherapy: benefits and properties for health

Treatments and techniques with hydrotherapy

The hydrotherapy it can be applied thanks to different techniques, being very used even in a great amount of treatments.

Here are some of the hydrotherapy techniques most currently used:

  • Wraps
    Certain parts of the body are wrapped, or -even- the whole body with linen, cotton or wool gauzes. Of course, the wrap must have three layers: a wet that is in contact with the body, a second dry layer and a somewhat thicker outer, to shelter the body.
  • Compressed
    It is mainly linen cloths folded several times, which are soaked in some liquid and, once drained, are applied on a certain part of the body. They are usually cold water.
  • Water springs
    For this technique to be correctly used, experts recommend a rubber hose about 2 centimeters in diameter and about 2.5 meters long. The application of the water jets consists of distributing a layer of water in the area to be treated.
    Generally, the duration of the cold jets is approximately one minute, while the alternating temperature jets last between 1 and 2 minutes.
  • Hot or cold baths
    Both hot baths and cold baths can be partial or total. In case of hot baths, the water temperature should range between 36 and 38 degrees, and its duration can vary between 10 and 25 minutes.
    In case of cold baths, the ideal is that they are taken in temperate environments, with temperatures that do not exceed 20 degrees. Of course, the duration in them should not exceed 20 seconds, while the introduction to water should be done very slowly.
  • Steam shower
    They should last between 10 and 15 minutes, and usually for this type of bath the vapors that boil water is used, either alone or with medicinal plants.

Many are the properties of hydrotherapy, especially its different therapeutic and medicinal virtues for the health of those who practice it.

It is ideal for improving blood circulation, while toning the muscles and increasing respiratory capacity. That without counting that, in turn, achieves the psycho-emotional balance of the person.

The application or treatment with hydrotherapy can be used for many cases, among which we highlight: anemia, anorexia, conjunctivitis, gastritis, hemorrhoids, hypertension, rheumatism, sinusitis and varicose veins.
