The pH of the blood: what it is and normal values
Did you know that the balance of Blood pH is it important for our life? As we have already mentioned on other occasions, pH is a value used with the objective of measuring the alkalinity or acidity of a certain substance, indicating the percentage of hydrogen found in it, measuring the amount of acid ions (H +).
The pH scale varies from 0 to 14, so it is usually considered 7 as a neutral pH value, when it falls from this amount it is an acidic pH and when it increases an alkaline pH is considered.
The pH of our blood should be slightly alkaline, which does mean that The optimal pH of human blood should range between 7.35 and 7.45. However, as many specialists say, the reality is quite different: most people in developed countries suffer from acidosis (direct relationship with our diet, habits, emotional health and the pollution to which we are exposed on a daily basis). In fact, a pH of 7 would be considered neutral or neutral
However, depending on the function of certain secretions or substances we will find different pH: urine pH of 8, gastric juices 1.5, vaginal discharge approximately 4.5 and sweat of 5.5, or the pH of the skin itself .
Normal values of blood pH
In the particular case of blood, as indicated above, the optimal pH of our body's blood should range between 7.35 and 7.45 (that is, it would be a slightly alkaline pH).
However, values below would be considered an acidic pH, while values above 7 would be an alkaline pH, but if the alkalinity reached 7.8, we would die, in the same way that if it reached 7.1 we would go into a coma and we would die with a pH of 6.9.
Consequences of abnormal blood pH values
An excess of acidity would have the following consequences in our organism, and therefore also in our health:
- Decreased capacity of our body to absorb essential nutrients, such as minerals.
- Decreased ability to produce energy in cells.
- Decreased capacity for the repair of damaged cells.
- Greater predisposition to suffer cancer.
- Decreased capacity of our body to detoxify heavy metals.
- We are more susceptible to fatigue, as well as suffering from diseases.
For all these reasons, many nutritionists advise that our diet be based on 60% alkalizing foods and 40% acidifying foods. While, to restore health, it is advisable to follow a diet of 80% alkalizing foods and 20% acidifying foods.
