But why are we coughing? We must take into account something fundamental in the first place: even if we think otherwise, the truth is that cough is a completely normal reaction of our body. It is an involuntary reflex whose main objective is to keep the airway clear. It is activated for example in order to eliminate mucus, pathogens or other secretions.

This stimulus is in many cases caused by the presence of mucus, or by the presence of a foreign body located in the respiratory tract. Nor can we forget that it can actually be a symptom of certain diseases, such as asthma, bronchitis or the cold itself.

And how is the cough reflex activated? When for example there is an excess of mucus or we breathe involuntarily a particle of dust or a piece of food without waiting, the receptors present in the mucous membranes of the trachea and bronchi are irritated, appearing the cough that incidentally we can not stop voluntarily.

For those cases in which the cough is due to a respiratory disease there are natural remedies that can help us such as homemade cough syrups. In this case we bring you a few recipes of syrups so they can relieve cough.
