Soft diet for gastritis

There are several different diseases and health disorders that tend to affect both directly and indirectly the digestive system. Among the most common we find the stomach flu, which consists of a swelling of the intestine caused mainly by a virus or a bacterium, and the gastritis, consisting of a Irritation of the gastric mucosa.

In what refers to what are the main causes that intervene or influence the appearance of gastritis, we find ourselves especially with bad eating habits, the abuse of certain drugs (especially anti-inflammatory drugs), or the bacteria Helicobacter Pylori. There is also another type of gastritis that has more to do with the emotional state of the person, in case of stress and anxiety, which is popularly known by the name of emotional gastritis.

In relation to treatment for gastritis, we must bear in mind that from a medical point of view it is possible to prescribe different treatments. Basically we can summarize them in the following list:

  • Medications and drugs: for example, Almax or Urbal type antacid medicines, medicines regulating gastric acidity such as ranitidine, or drugs that decrease gastric secretion, such as Omeprazole.
  • Bland diet: it is one of the most effective and appropriate treatments, together with the prescription of those medications or drugs that the medical specialist considers appropriate.

What is a soft diet?

As its name suggests, when we talk about bland diet we refer to a type of diet specially designed for delicate stomachs, so that certain foods that can be harmful or very strong for the digestive system are prohibited, and other more suitable ones are advised, because they are much "softer".

That is, it is a type of diet advised and recommended to mitigate certain problems related to the digestive system, both of gastric type (as for example is the case of gastritis, diarrhea, gastroesophageal reflux or an ulcer), or difficulty swallowing. It is also used in case of use of dental appliances or surgery on the jaw.

We can mention, for example, the one known as astringent soft diet, which is especially interesting in case of diarrhea and gastritis, being adequate in case of indigestion, food poisoning or gastric disorder. Why? Very simple: because helps when it comes to nourishing our body but stimulating little digestion, so that there is no effort on the part of the digestive system, while we help in solving the problem that has led to the implementation of this diet.
