Consumption of sugary sodas and diabetes

The diabetes (especially the type 2 diabetes) has become one of the biggest concerns for many doctors and for different authorities and health institutions in general, especially due to the increase that has occurred in recent years in cases diagnosed.

In the case of type 2 diabetes the increase is greater, especially because in recent years have also increased the cases of overweight and obesity, due in particular to sedentary lifestyle, to follow an unbalanced diet and high in calories and fat , and little or no practice of physical exercise.

With regard to diet, not only is habitual the higher consumption of very caloric foods and rich in saturated fats (which cause an increase in weight and fat in our body), but we must also mention the sugary sodas.

The truth is that the refreshments, being rich in sugar, were in the crosshairs of many nutritionists because a regular consumption of this type of drinks caused overweight. But the reality is even worse: a recent study has found that these sugary drinks could also be a cause of diabetes.

The study has been published in the journal Diabetology, and among other aspects, the main conclusion is that the consumption of a single can of soda per day can increase the possibility of suffering type 2 diabetes by up to 22%.

More than 350,000 people from 8 European countries participated in the study. In addition, among the sugary soft drinks, the sugary soft drinks themselves, artificially sweetened soft drinks and also packaged fruit juices were analyzed.

Unlike sugary soft drinks, the consumption of juices or other types of beverages do not have the same negative impact on health as the first ones, so they could continue to be consumed in a normal way.
