Effects of not drinking enough water in our health

It is 4:53 pm on June 17, 2014, and the time has come to ask you a question: how many times have you taken water today? If it happened to you like me, you probably only took 2 or 3 glasses of water; a complete error if we take into account the benefits of water, and especially the importance it has for the proper functioning of our body.

Obviously, it is advisable to pay attention to how many glasses of water to drink per day, which can be useful to know how much water we should drink daily. And no, feeling thirsty is not much less useful, since it is only a symptom that appears when it is too late and our body is dehydrated.

In relation to the amount of water that we should drink every day, many doctors advise taking between 1.5 to 2 liters of water daily, which would be equivalent to an approximate amount of 8 glasses of water (1 liter of water is equivalent to taking 4 glasses of water of 250 ml). And, as with everything, drinking too much water also has its negative consequences. Although this time we want to focus precisely on what are the consequences of not drinking enough water:

  • The metabolism does not develop correctly, mainly due to the fact that water transports nutrients, regulates our body temperature and in turn helps in the elimination of toxins.
  • Migraines, due to the critical regulation of body temperature.
  • It harms the digestive process, which becomes much slower. It is also common for constipation to appear due to colitis (or inflammation of the colon), a condition that gets worse over time when we eat continuously without drinking enough water.
  • Severe kidney problems may appear, because the urine is concentrated in excess.
  • Circulatory problems may appear, since the circulation of our organism becomes much slower.
  • Depression, as a consequence of a lack of water in the brain tissue. On the other hand, chronic dehydration can lead to the appearance of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
  • Asthma and allergies, because our body has resorted to an increase in histamine production as a result of lack of water.
  • Diabetes, both type 1 (when inhibition occurs with respect to the action of insulin by the activation of a group of prostaglandins, including prostaglandin type E), and type 2 (due both to chronic dehydration and metabolic disorder of amino acids in the body).
