How to make a German sausage salad (Schwäbische Wurstsalat)

What is the German salad?

We have before us a wonderful salad, popularly known by the name of Schwäbische Wurstsalat. It is tremendously known in German cuisine. In fact, depending on the region is made with different ingredients, hence it is also called by different names.

Basically it is a sausage salad (or also just like sausage salad). In fact, its name is based on the composition of two words: 'Wurst' which means sausage and 'Salat' which means salad.

Its origin is found in southern Germany, specifically in the regions of Alsace, Switzerland and Austria.

How to make the Schwäbische Wurstsalat salad at home

Its preparation is extremely easy and simple. Here we indicate what ingredients you need and the steps for their preparation.

Ingredients:

  • 200 gr. of sausages
  • Several gherkins in vinegar (to taste)
  • 1 onion
  • 1 red pepper
  • Swiss cheese Emmental
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of vinegar
  • Black pepper
  • Salt

preparation:

First cut the sausages into several pieces. Wash the red pepper well and cut it into pieces as well. Remove the pickles from the container and cut them into thin slices.

Now peel the onion well, and carefully cut it very small.

In a bowl mix the olive oil and vinegar in the indicated amounts. Salpimenta to taste.

In this same bowl add the cut sausages, the onion, the pickles and the pepper. Mix everything well. Finally, with the help of a long grader, obtain thin strips of Emmental cheese, and serve on top.

Recommendation:

It is advisable to always serve this cold salad. Accompanied with rye bread is ideal.
